themightymrp Posted May 1, 2025 Posted May 1, 2025 Still quite new to using the Smoothwall but we have the category of WhatsApp allowed for our staff devices, and it does work. However we randomly find that messages don't send for up to 10 minutes, then suddenly they go through. Other times it's instant. Is there anything specific I need to unblock in addition to the predefined item in the categories? Cheers
Steve21 Posted May 1, 2025 Posted May 1, 2025 Is it the actual messages or Apple push notifications etc? As they would come under different rules steve
themightymrp Posted May 1, 2025 Author Posted May 1, 2025 It seems to be the messages themselves. They sit with the clock symbol waiting to send and then after a time, you get the 2 ticks. But the time can vary enormously
Rob_D Posted May 1, 2025 Posted May 1, 2025 First thing I'd do is check the webfiltering logs to see if there's any random URLs that are being blocked when the messages fail to send. Could be it doesn't like SSL inspection, try adding a "Do not inspect" policy for watsapp in Guardian>SSL Inspection. Or could be firewall ports. It looks like you need to have TCP 80, 443, and 5222, and UDP 3478 open for basic messaging, with potentially more for media messaging. Again logs might help you here. How are you doing auth for the watsapp device (it might not like proxying or something)? See if you get similar problems using the browser version on a PC. 1
themightymrp Posted June 6, 2025 Author Posted June 6, 2025 I really should have replied to this sooner - just for anyone else. I added the Whatsapp Messenger into the 'do not inspect' part of the SSL Inspection page and it worked instantly. Such a noob Thanks! 1 1
