TopCoffee Posted March 25, 2025 Posted March 25, 2025 (edited) Hello there! We're an independent 16-18 College looking to change MIS. One of the things that has come out of the (many) conversations is the various levels of integration with Power BI - some integrate directly, some intergrate with platforms like SchoolsBI, some do their own thing. Either way, it's clear that having a 'top-down' data tool is key and usually a separate entity to the MIS itself. We have a basic level of understanding of how PowerBI could work for us, and are in the process of developing this understanding. My personal feeling is that Power BI represents a huge amount of potential but at the cost of upskilling leadership/data teams. Are any organisations out there who use Power BI in a detailed way for assessment, attendance, ATL, or other aspects of whole-school data who would be available to offer us any advice? Kind thanks in advance! Edited March 25, 2025 by TopCoffee 1

I'd disagree with the second part. With something like Power Bi, or any other dashboard style system, the user or consumer (leadership) of the data shouldn't need upskilling, they just need to know what they want to see and be presented with it. The only training will be how the interface works or how to navigate to the different views. Whoever is implementing or creating the dashboards will need upskilling and then run the process of discovery to find out what views are wanted.
