tombry Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 So I did this today, and was quite surprised at how the Attainment 8 estimates and element estimates shifted from last year's numbers (which presumably everyone was using for their estimates?) The low bands seem to have been raised, while the higher bands shifted down a bit, I wasn't surprised by the amount of slots filled data, but certainly by the estimates.
ICTLady Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 What seems to have happened is that schools have changed their curriculum to put a lot more middle and lower ability students into Ebacc subjects (hence the change in slots filled). The national percentage of A*-C passes went down in all Ebacc subjects this year, but the estimates have still gone up hugely as a kid with DDE (for example) in Ebacc is still scoring much higher in that basket than a kid with one c and two empty slots.
tombry Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 Certainly, and a recommendation I had made, but was once again ignored on. I also think the PIXL recommendation that all schools enter students for the ECDL has some impact on it - my new assistant head's former school did so, and their overall estimate wasn't too far off from where they ended up - their lower ability students didn't do as well as they thought they would (what with the Estimated shift), but their prediction was closer than what G4S/SIMS was showing us. Ah well, hopefully the new Asst Head gets it straight this year...
