Funding and BTEC Level Changes

I have one course set up in SIMS for each level of a BTEC course. Example: Sport has Single, Double, 90Cr and Triple. If a student changes the course for their BTEC Level at the last minute or during the academic year, do we still get funding?

 

Example:

 

Student studies Triple. Has Course Membership on Triple course.

Student leaves, Course Membership for Triple ends and marked as completed.

Student is granted a Single award as he has done enough work to achieve it, even though he was on Triple course. (Better something than nothing!).

 

Because the student wasn't marked as being on the Single course, would they get funding if I just mark Triple as completed without an exam result being pulled through (End and P.End is changed to their leaving date)? Or do I have to cancel their course membership in Triple with the reason Transferred and sign them up to the Single course for one day for the census to detect it?

 

There is also the situation where throughout the year, I have taken students off one course and put them on another when they change level (eg, Single to Double halfway through the year marking Single as Transferred) and occasionally had to put them back on their original level again via transfer when they change their minds once more!

Yes you would need to make the change, though they will pick up the mismatch from the QAN and the qualification awarded themselves.

 

There would be an impact on funding, because normally a triple award course would occupy 3 times the hours of the single award course, and funded appropriately.

 

If the student drops a triple for a single but without picking up another 2 qualifications (equivalent) they would be expected to be doing less hours and hours = money.

 

What I've always done with these BTEC thingies is to record them on the largest course we expect them to do, and only amend towards the end of the year if there is an issue with them dropping down a level.
