Mark_VdB82 Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Hi, I'm looking for some MIS advice/input/suggestions for a colleague who is looking to install an MIS into a new school. Its a clean slate, nothing existing already so from that point of view hopefully quite exciting. I use Facility but have suggested they look to the new gen web based products. Being a Facility user I am aware of Progresso yet since its release all appears to have gone quiet and i'm not quite sure why? I was hoping to look at moving to Progresso here but now i'm not so sure so am also looking at alternatives. The other 2 that have stood out to me on first glance are Aspen & Scholar Pack. Does anyone use any of these/looked at hem in detail/seen in action or know anyone who uses them and has any feedback/ Would be great to have peoples thoughts.
timetableman Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 We also use Facility/e-Portal, and ran away from Progresso when we have an on-site demo, - not just the powerpoint slides. We also had a week onsite with access to Bromcom, this was clearly the better system, only the name has held SLT back from making the change. My experience of Scholar Pack is that it does lots - just. - Again this is my own experience others may have had better experiences. I've not had access to Aspen. If you want to change to a system that everyone-else uses then there is SIMS, but if you are already using Facility then there is probably a historical reason in your school (like ours) why you don't use it.
CAM Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 I had access to Aspen at the EduGeek conference. @GREED can probably explain it best but my view of the system was good from a teacher/parent point of view but not so much from an assessment view. It needs to allow bulk creation of assessment fields (or whatever they are called) before I can put my stamp of approval on Aspen or those 50+ column marksheets I currently create on SIMS would be very tiresome to replicate.
