Jobos Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 We are on a 100Mbps connection and have been having a few problems with our internet recently so I tried running a speed checker but getting very different results. All test were performed one after the other. speedtest.net 63/95 fast.com 5/84 google 9/84 Testing one hour later speedtest.net 63/94 fast.com 14/79 google 7/57 Are there any better tests I can run?
PotNoodleTech Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 You will get varied results throuhout the day depending on how many pupils/staff are playing youtube videos etc. Speed test fast etc only show "free bandwidth" so if other users are already using the internet your results will always be low. Try doing it out of hours/first thing in the morning and see if you get better test results. If it's a secondary school you should be on 1000mb/s not 100.
NegativeKillDeath Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 As already said you should try speed tests when there is low or nil network utilisation. If you have access to router or firewall/filter stats you can sometimes see what the 'background' schools internet usage is at the time you run the speed test, that should give you an indication of what the true speed is. If you want an additional speedtest website then I often use Internet Speed Test - Measure Network Performance | Cloudflare 1
