Sessions view on 2022 Server EXTREMELY sluggish compared to 2019

Howdy all,

 

I've been meaning to research this for a while now but kept forgetting. This past summer we started migrating our schools (file servers) from Server 2019 to brand new servers with 2022 on them. I immediately noticed that now on the new servers when I have to look for a user session under computer management it just hangs for several seconds before it even starts listing the sessions. If I try to scroll down it hangs for several more seconds. If I try to change the sorting from User to Computer it will freeze for about five minutes. The older servers were much slower hardware wise but did not have this problem (they were running Server 2019).

 

Has anyone seen this and dealt with it yet? I have verified this activity with several different servers. It's really frustrating.

I just checked and there is no additional CPU, memory, or network activity, the cursor is just spinning in a circle for several minutes. I have verified this on several of our file servers.

Try with process monitor and process explorer from sysinternals, you can see wait chains and attempted file/network access

After looking at this issue for a while I find more and more posts of folks complaining about this.  They tried the solutions offered by Microsoft (I'm not about to tinker too much with our production servers) without success.

 

On a lark one day I fired up Computer Management on my workstation and just connected to the storage server (right click on Computer Management in the upper left and select connect to another computer).  When I did that and looked at the sessions it was lightning quick like it used to be on Server 2019 and before.  I tried it on four of our six file servers and it worked great every time.

 

I guess we are just dealing with an age where Windows in most flavors is so bloated that even Microsoft doesn't really know what is going on anymore.  Figured I'd post this in case it helped anyone.
