Hi All,

I have just installed and configured a new Exchange 2006 server. I have got this external dns mail.xxxx.org which I use for all our external e-mails. It forwards all external e-mail.

I have set up a connector through the hub transport but the e-mails are getting stuck saying unreacheable.

Is there any thing that i am missing that i need to do.

I have put a MX record in my own dns pointing to my external DNS. But i am a little confused.

Didn't know there was exchange 2006 ;)

Have you forward the correct ports and let enough time for the mx records to kick in?

We do not have control of our router it is centrally controlled. But we had a Exchange Server 2003 system before so should the router alreadyt be setup and ready?

I assume it's similar for 2008, but on 2003 you need to configure the forwarding mail relay on the smtp connector.

From the mail server try: telnet mail.xxx.org 25

(type "quit" to exit). If you get a response from telnet and the relay is set correctly in the smtp section on exchange it should work.

No its a differnet IP Address

Put the server on the same IP address as the old server and I expect it will work, as long as all your other settings are correct! Your router will be configured to route SMTP traffic to a certain address, and I expect the mail server your outbound mail forwards to is setup to only receive mail from a specific address within your organisation, so as to stop open mail relay and possible abuse of the e-mail server(s).
