DNS problem????

Just upgraded my domain from 2000 to 2003 (no laughing please).

 

2 brand new AD controllers, same IP addresses as previouse DC's but new names. Migration of AD from 2000 to 2003 seems to be ok apart from a strange internet problem.

 

Connect to the LEA internet via an inhouse ISA server running websense. This is down stream from the LEA proxy server.

 

We can't connect to the internet through the ISA server anymore, we get the follwoing message;

 

"Technical Information (for support personnel)

Error Code 11001: Host not found

Background: This error indicates that the gateway could not find the IP address of the website you are trying to access. This is usually due to a DNS-related error.

Source: DNS error "

 

 

We can ping the the ISA server by IP and name which leads me to thinking that DNS is ok on the network - but could be wrong

 

We can access the net from the ISA server.

 

If we change out proxy address to the LEA then we can get the internet (hense i am able to type this) but we can't access out POP3/SMTP email host.

 

Any clues or ideas??

Just a thought: What is in your hosts file?

 

Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

 

File: hosts [no extension]

 

When we firts moved away from 2000 I had to make entries in here to be able to access the Internet. Might be helpful?

The problem is sorted. Since both dns servers were not resolving the names for external sites therefore added CLC top dns external servers as forwarder for both these servers and dns resolution now appeared to be fine.

 

Why it didn't come accross i don't know.
