Jawloms Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I'm just setting up the new Teams for September. All our AD accounts sync up to M365. I've created a security group in AD for each of the five tutor groups with the idea that I then create "7A French", "7A Geography" etc. and add the security group with the "A" tutor group kids in it. If I try this is teams (web-based), I go to "Add member" and type the name of the security group, which it recognises and suggests. As soon as I click on it, the dialogue box just disappears. No errors, pop-ups or anything! It doesn't add anyone to the team. If I try it in the Teams admin centre, it doesn't recognise the name of the security group when I start typing it. What am I missing? What's the best way to add the same 30 kids to around a dozen new Teams, and then repeat a further four times for the other tutor groups? Thank you Stuart
notalot Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 From memory (going back a few years) if you add a group from the Teams App (not Web) it will add the members of the group, but it doesn't update if the group is updated going forward. PowerShell would be my go to if I had to do this again https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/teams/add-teamuser?view=teams-ps 1
Jawloms Posted August 27, 2024 Author Posted August 27, 2024 I've just tried the app and get the same thing where the dialogue box just disappears. I'll give PowerShell a go though, thank you.
Jawloms Posted August 27, 2024 Author Posted August 27, 2024 Powershell isn't happy either. I've group I'm trying to add up as a Global Security group in AD. At first it didn't have an email address, so I added one. Does the group need to be setup a particular way? Does it need to be setup on Entra rather than AD?
Roberto Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Remember that a Team is a group, a M365 group. If you can add users directly to the group associated with the team with a script or whatever then you're golden. 1
Jawloms Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 Figured it out! Because the students haven't started yet, I hadn't enabled their accounts in AD. Enabled them, and can now add my on-prem groups to teams.....
