Failover Cluster - Moving from Cluster to Local

Hi All,

 

Is this possible?

 

2 * Dell R630 host with Storage spaces - 4SSD and 4HDD - roughly 5tb per host useable

 

Issue with 4k videos and alike is we used up all that storage

We have a HP 3PAR 8200 - We will use for local files and videos along with longer term storage of large data we may want to keep

 

For the purposes of testing we have a test WDS server we we moved to the Failover cluster - C:\Clusterstorage - this being the SAN storage

 

There does not seem an obvious way to move the VM back out of the Cluster to one of the individual HyperV hosts and Storage spaces?

Could you not power down the server and export the server ?

Sounds reasonable, I had been looking in Failover Cluster Manager only

Will give it a try tomorrow after results

 

Change freeze for a couple of days with results coming up

Hi, I've done something similar recently to handle an issue with a cluster.

 

If you "remove" the server from fail over cluster manager then the VM is now hosted on the server it was assigned to in failover cluster manager, so one of your 2 VH's (it doesn't delete the VM when you use remove in Failover cluster manager it just stops fail over cluster manager managing the VM), if it was running it will stay running

 

You can then perform a storage move on the local Hyper-V server through Hyper-V manager to get the VM's files out of the Cluster Storage and to where you want them stored.
