Intune Hybrid Join to AD

Hi there,

Just looking for some advice. We have a local network on a server 2022, we also have M365.

I would like to join the two together but have a few questions...

 

 

1. Would we have to re-autopilot the existing M365 devices to get them to talk to the local DC server?

2. If we join M365 to our local server, what will happen to the existing Group Policies and users? As an example, all of the existing staff and pupils have accounts on our local server. Would these be overwritten or would a new OU form in the AD for the M365 users and devices?

3. What is the best way to go about doing the hybrid?

 

My biggest concern is I don't want to mess up anything on our existing server or mess up the existing systems on M365.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to unpack this a little.

 

I think what you are saying is for a given person they have

 

1) an M365 identify and password

2) a Active Directory (DC) identity and seperate password

 

 

And you have a mix of Azure AD Joined and AD joined PCs?

 

I am not sure of the value in AD Domain joining machines that are already Azure AD domain Joined, this would be a backwards step compared to most peoples direction of travel. it is possible to access an on premise fileserver with an AAD user account and device.

 

I think what you want to do is sync your own prem AD user accounts to M365 and for those people who already have an account join them up, but need to understand more to be sure.
