1909 to 22H2 Broken short cut bank

Hi Hoping some one can point me in the right direction, We use sccm for patch Tuesday, (It was setup by our pervious support company, which we just moved away from, as the mat the decided to move us all to the same company to "standardise i.t")

On patch Tuesday it is setup to make a group with the updates and push them out to 6 pcs, all of which are staff pc's and if no one comes and complains at me a few week's later we manually push it out to the whole school.

 

I followed the same procedure this month, only its seems to have broken things, but only for pupils, its never broken any thing in the past 12/3 years, but also after having a look to see if i could roll the update back, what it seems to have updated is our version of windows. we where are 1909 and the first time i logged on to one of the pupil pc's with my admin account i got a thank you message for upgrading to the new version windows, so checked the version and its upgraded us to 22H2.

 

The main down side / what's broken is that we are no longer getting our custom desktop wallpaper, and more importantly the pupils no longer get our custom shortcuts so no longer have any short cuts for any installed programs, and just get the basic windows ones. We have been getting round this by clicking on office docs they have or right clicking and saying new and making a office doc.

 

The shortcut bank is on the file server, in a shared folder, and i assume managed by a gpo, (I have been spoilt our previous i.t contract covered everything and the new on is only 3rd line) Has any one come across a similar situation, or know what has changed between 1909 and 22H2, that might have stopped this from working, I am assuming that in the end its going to be a permissions issue and the pupil accounts are going to need a bump up?

Windows 10 1909 was EOL in 2022 btw#

 

The shortcuts will have either been

 

1. a redirected desktop, pointing to a folder containing all of the shortcuts - have any permissions changed,

 

2. GPO applying desktop shortcuts - can you run gpresult & see if there are any errors with any GPO's

 

Do you use mandatory profiles? Or local

looks like there are are few that are being denied,

Filtering: Denied (WMI Filter)

Would be the best bet I would guess the top one, could they be filtering based in the fact that we are tech no longer running 1909?

 

Profiles we use local ones, but we dont let them save to desk top only to map drives.

Yes sounds promising, see if it was targeting based on windows version. In which case it would not apply as the windows version does not match anymore

To resolve this, check your Group Policy settings in the GPMC, ensuring they are correctly linked and configured, and verify file permissions on the shared folder containing the shortcut bank. Use the gpresult command on a pupil PC to confirm policies are applied, and refresh policies with gpupdate /force
