The language faculty want to have the option of using japanese/chinese scripts via the language toolbar. Is there any way we can configure this via GPO or do we have to manually do it for each user on the workstation?

They are the only users who want this functionality, and all of the images have this disabled by default.

Hrm had a look through the pages, they seem to be more changing the whole interface to the other languages. Looking more for using windows in English but allowing the use of japanese via language toolbar...

Its helping me get just that much closer tho :)

I have looked around and havn't been able to find any way to automate the deployment of extra input locale profile other than at install time with the unattended answer file. Depending on how many machines are involved it may be better to either do it manually or do a reimage with these locales installed.

I did find a whole bunch of tutorials on adding the locales which also include some additional helper applications to make the text entry easier (on screen keyboard type stuff).

Windows Keyboards

Declan's Guide to Installing and Using Microsoft's Japanese IME - Windows Vista, XP & 2000 - looks like for japanese you need to actially install some extra files to handle the script characters.

Come to think of it is might be worth trying to use something like Winstall LE to capture the regestery and file changes when one machine has teh locales installed. With a good clean up of the MSI you may be able to deploy it via GPO.

This GPO could be handy to reset the locales at logon:

You can install Microsoft IME as the default keyboard for in this case Japanese with these reg keys;

So the GPO reg settings looked like this;

Took me ages to work this out as its easy to install the Japanese keyboard with a reg key but not the IME bit.

I know this is an old thread but I couldn't find this info anywhere else on the net so I thought I'd share it here now I have worked it out.
