iPads - Exam Scenarios

Well its time for a question that I'm sure I already know the answer to but here goes.

 

My school have gone down the route of 1:1 iPads *screams of joy! sarcasm sold separately* and of course want to try and use them for EVERYTHING (even though we all know they are good for very little... Anyways...).

 

They want to be able to use them for exams and were flogged the dead horse by some flashy suited sales rep at the time that said "Ow yeah, they have an exam mode and everything", my GoogleFU on the other hand tells me this is an Apple feature in the code that needs leveraging by app developers and i can only find a handful that are American and nothing like what they want.

 

In short - They want a simple notepad with no spell check, predictive text, accessibility features and the iPad locked down from Internet and other apps.

Usually its a laptop with no internet access and only notepad.

 

Anyone got an answer for this?

Single App mode would work, just need to find an app that ticks your boxes.

Aye the single app mode would work its just all the other requirements along with that.

 

According to apple the Exam mode turns off predictive text, spell check etc... but has to be leverage by the app dev's etc...

 

Apple is missing a trick with a app here.

To restrict access during exams, I would create temporary profiles in your MDM. For example, if you use Mosyle, I could create an Exam Layout profile that only lists the required apps. Additionally, I would create a block/allow apps profile to disable Safari and Chrome.

 

These profiles could then be disabled/enabled as and when needed.
