BJG Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Having moved personal on-prem folders to OneDrive, we're now looking at the best way to deal with the shared folders. There's a core of office-based staff, but access is mainly remote now. We're about to replace our VPN with Entra Private Access. We've made a start with Sharepoint Online, though there's also still a large amount in Sharepoint 2016 on-prem. But we're thinking that for some of the content sitting in departmental folders on our local file server, Sharepoint might not be the best option anyway...? Things like image libraries and videos. So, we're not sure what to do with it. I just started looking at Azure Files, and Wasabi Cloud NAS. Any thoughts...?
thimon Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 When we migrated all shared files to SharePoint Online, I created an Asset library for multimedia. Has worked well. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/set-up-an-asset-library-to-store-image-audio-or-video-files-96532bf6-dc72-4f82-bf0a-21ef945c4d04 1
BJG Posted February 21, 2024 Author Posted February 21, 2024 Thanks...interested to read the comment on that page, "Note: As video experiences are enhanced in SharePoint Online as part of the new version of Microsoft Stream, Asset Libraries will not be used. Enhanced video experiences will be available for any video file uploaded to a normal document library in SharePoint, in Microsoft Teams, Yammer, or OneDrive." https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/stream/streamnew/new-stream
