Buying Refurbished PC's require a licence?

Hi all,

 

I am looking to purchase some refurbished PC's. I know buying brand new I need to have a windows 10 home license minimum which I can then upgrade. I have had contradicting information on refurbished PC's as they would come with the license on the BIOS already I do not need to purchase them with a license. Is this true?

 

What is anyone else's experience in this area?

IIRC it depends on the type of the license, retail licenses can be transferred to new owners but if they originated from a company it may be more complex.

MS licensing is notoriously difficult.

All our refurbished pcs come with a windows 10 professional digital license that will be good to activate windows 10 or 11 pro once the pc connects to the internet. It should also allow you to use your volume licensing

At least 99% of pre built PCs come with a Windows OEM licence. If you install Windows Home/Pro you can see what it says under activation, something like "Windows 10 on this device is activated with a digital entitlement"

 

Or it's got a sticker on
