Redirect/Move profile folders to OneDrive

Hello in Win 11 what can I do with the built in profile folders (documents, pictures, videos etc) when using OneDrive (we use the OneDrive sync client). I don’t want them saving anywhere other than OneDrive.

 

I have tried traditional folder redirection GPO (setting an environment variable called ONEDRIVESYNC) and redirecting to ONEDRIVESYNC\Documents but it’s erratic.

 

Should I be using ‘Silently move known folders’ to OneDrive policy but that does not include videos, music or downloads. Not really sure how that would or should work.

I've always used the 'Silently move known folders'. Never had to tell any staff about music/video folders as these tend not to be used as often anymore. Everything just goes in the documents folder for most staff now adays.

 

The downloads folder shouldn't be used to store any files. Anything important should be moved into their documents

So does that mean if they save to the Music folder in My PC and their profile gets cleaned they lose their work? It’s a shame it can’t at least be removed?

We had Pictures and Videos redirected to Documents, then Know Folder Move should pick them both up.

 

Downloads should be the only thing saved locally. You can redirect it to OneDrive, but then your downloading, to upload, to download on the next PC, so not advised.

It should just be: Setting: Follow the Documents folder

 

However now I look, we've not got that set any more and it's still re-directing to OneDrive using the 'Know Folder Move'. So you might want to leave Folder Redirection as 'Not Configured' clear your test accounts local profile and try again, should just work.

 

Make sure you have your users and machine Azure AD Joined for best chance of getting things working with Office 365.
