Bankesy Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Good morning all, I think I'm misunderstanding something about how Exchange Online handles disabled and unlicensed accounts: I've got a user who left in June, account was disabled in AD and at the time we still had Exchange on prem but since then have migrated to Office 365 but I'm confused because on Exchange server the user shows as having an Office 365 mailbox but having re-enabled and re-licensed the account there is only a blank mailbox when logging in. Thanks
chaplic Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Exchange on prem doesnt really have an understanding of Office365 mailboxes, there's no system where it's reaching out to Office365 querying if if there's a mailbox present. Instead, it's looking at AD values like MsExchRecipientDisplayType and MsExchRemoteRecipientType for that AD Account. I am guessing MsExchRemoteRecipientType is 4 which would represent a normal mailbox, migrated to O365 Also guessing, was the mailbox migrated to O365 (licensed) then decomissioned/de-licensed? This would cause AD to be updated, thus Exchange server but a sebsequent de-licensing would not show as no O365 mailbox in Exchange server
Bankesy Posted January 11, 2024 Author Posted January 11, 2024 @chaplic Yes msExchRemoteRecipientType is set as 4. I think I didn't explain my actual problem very well, basically the account\mailbox was disabled some months ago but not somebody wants access to the mailbox so I'm trying to understand how to do that\where the mailbox and e-mails have gone. I'm wondering if I've gone past the retention period so 365 just got rid.
TechMonkey Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 Yeah, they will be gone. 90 days is the most they will be kept.
