Hi

Wondered if anyone has had any issues with Cambium on site - we have Cloud managed (cnMaestro) switches/AP Points across our schools (Primary)

Cloud management part works really well easy to set everything -

Wireless - We have XV2-2 across multiple sites for IT it works fine (Surprise) but we have teachers reporting issues about connectivity -

We have followed instructions and set all Bands/Radios to Auto - however we have come across following issues

Random Areas where no broadcasting - Normally fixes via firmware change and factory reset

Lack of range: As a primary we try and put 1 AP per 2 classrooms (For cost and 2 many access points cause issues) but we have some schools where we need to increase to 1 per classroom

Random rooms that have poor signal even with Access point in room Modifying band usually fixes this

We are looking to go with more Xv2-21xs however is the anyone that can share setup info

Thanks

Coverage seems fine here, got 1 AP in most classrooms, but also areas where one is covering multiple rooms, not had to change any settings/reboot anything.

Not super high density usage, probably maxing at 15 clients for an AP

Hi is it the XV2 AP you are using is it wall mounted or ceiling mounted?

Thanks

Does a reboot fix this? Do you find the APs stop accepting new clients say after a couple of weeks of uptime? Just wondering if you are experiencing a similar bug to us, I have a work around you could try.

Not had an issue with range, all horizonal mounted. Where we cannot use ceiling grid I found some wall brackets to keep there orientation optimal.

Thanks

Hi Rob

That would be very helpful - Bulk of ours are wall mounted via the mounting screws on the back but if you could also share a pic of how you have ceiling mounted would be good.

Thanks

That will explain your bad signal range, they need to be mounted horizontally. Here is the wall bracket we used where the ceiling wasn't appropriate, for various reasons. https://tripplite.eaton.com/universal-wall-bracket-for-wireless-access-point-right-angle-steel-white~ENBRKT ordered mine from Insight UK.

Otherwise we would preferably clip to the ceiling grid using the included bracket as this make zero holes and nice and secure or if an old AP had been installed mid tile, I would place there to cover the holes.

With regards to clients not connecting, we have an issue on high load APs where there is clearly a memory leak after time. Cambium thought they fixed it but not yet.

Apply the following script to the User-Defined Overrides of your AP profile.

I have 5 years experience installing cambium kit. I would recommend the following.

Firstly ensure you don't have any packet loss on any of the switchports across all switches. Could be a switch issue and not wireless. Check your APs are connected at Gig or MultiGig.

Update AP and switch firmware to recommend using cnMaestro. Check all online, synced and no errors.

Manually map 5ghz channels on all APs. (40Mhz bonding, no overlap anywhere) 36 up to 132. (Dont use 124) Leave power on Auto. Leave 2.4ghz on Auto channel.

Test each individual AP using one client

Check connected speed to that AP, check channel etc (use ac or ax). Ensure you connected to AP in the room.

Check wifi analyser for channel overlap. Needs clear channels. If good close app as this interferes with testing if same laptop used.

Run continuous ping to DG. Should be less than 3ms unless data being Transferred, then it increases.

Run bandwidth test from each AP to local server UNC path using LAN Speed Test app. You should see speeds well over 150mbps for read and write. Transfer approx 300mb. Anything less then could be cabling issues.

APs lose around 2.5 - 5dB if mounted vertically. This isn't enough to worry about and normally has no real impact on connection speed or connectivity issues.

Hope this helps.
