Hyper-V problems with HP NCU utility

Heads for anyone trying to use Hyper-V on HP Servers...

 

Lost an entire day due to this issue..

 

Installed Hyper-V on a DL380 G5, rebooted all seemed fine

until started getting problems with the external network - physcal PCs not connecting to the DL380.

So I removed the Hyper-V role and rebooted.. only for the system to get to "Configuring Updates : Stage 3 of 3" then hang at 76%!

 

After Hours of searching online I finally found the KB article below..

 

SYMPTOMS

After you enable, disable, or update Hyper-V technology on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, the process stops responding. When you try to enable or update Hyper-V, the computer stalls at "Configuring Updates Stage 3 of 3." In this case, only 54 percent of the process is completed. When you try to disable Hyper-V, the computer stalls at "Configuring Updates Stage 3 of 3." In this case, only 75 percent of the process is completed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

• You enabled, disabled, or updated Hyper-V on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) server.

• The HP Network Configuration Utility was installed.

 

When you try to enable, disable, or update Hyper-V technology, the process stops responding

Thank you so much for posting this! I have had exactly the same problem. The only problem is that I can no longer do any windows updates on any of my servers in school at all now. I don't know if this is related to this issue but it's odd that there wasn't a problem before.

 

I am using the very same DL380 G5 server and Enterprise Edition Server 2008 64 bit edition. I bought this because the streaming media services are supposed to be better in this version.

 

I am thinking of turning the server off completely (it's so new it's not in use yet) to see if it solves my other problems.
