6Foot2 Posted October 7, 2023 Posted October 7, 2023 You activated Windows by phone and the entire computer disappeared? More helpfully (hopefully) is this what you are looking for? Link: Product activation for Windows – online & support telephone numbers - Microsoft Support

leachim Posted October 8, 2023 Author Posted October 8, 2023 Cheers I even went back to Win 8 to see if THAT was activated and it was in cmd, SLUI 4 brings up the activation window in Win 8 But it didn't in the upgraded Win 10 So I have used the Media Creation tool to try the upgrade again to Win 10 to see what happens.... !
robknowles Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Just a thought, does Microsoft still do the free upgrades to Windows 10 from 8.1? According to this (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upgrade-to-windows-10-faq-cce52341-7943-594e-72ce-e1cf00382445) the offer expired 29th July 2016, so if it's the first time you upgraded to Windows 10 then I presume it won't get the free automatic activation as the date passed quite a few years ago.
jmak Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 And in worse news, there was a loophole for seven years, but Microsoft closed that a week ago: https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/microsoft-kills-loophole-that-let-windows-7-keys-activate-windows-11-and-10 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
leachim Posted October 8, 2023 Author Posted October 8, 2023 Aha So I upgraded via the Media Tool and then got a Win 10 key from a website for under £10 Happy days Cheers
