Spate of laptops where two-finger-scrolling vanishing?

We've had quite a few pupils come through our door (BYOD environment) with Win11 laptops where 2-finger scrolling has ceased to work. Some bluetooth keyboards, some physically attached. The only common factor seems to be Windows 11.

 

The trackpad itself still works fine. Moving the mouse, clicking, etc.

Google-fu tells me that there should be options in Settings / Bluetooth & devices / Touchpad but they just.. aren't. Sensitivity is there but that's it.

 

I've also tried reinstalling drivers to no avail.

 

Anybody else seeing this?

Sounds like a driver thing to me. Most are made by synaptics so it may be worth trying a driver directly from their website rather than through Windows Updates or the Laptop Manufacturers web site.

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers, restarting the machine and see if it works with default windows ones?

Yes and yes.

I've done removing the drivers from dev. manager and rebooting, installing the official driver package direct from the manufacturer, and the full synaptics package.

Weren't some trackpads supposed to use the Windows drivers now? My old Dell XPS 13 had many issues when Windows 10 was released which were down to the Synaptics drivers not working correctly with Win 10.

IIRC, my trackpad symptoms were random jaggy movement of the cursor and gestures only working when they felt like it.
