iPad symbol identification

We've had the electronics in our lectern replaced, and the control is now on an iPad (not my choice) and we are having intermittent connection issues.

 

One thing I'd like to clear up, what does this symbol mean? Occasionally found flashing away in the very corner of the screen. I can't see it in any list Apple produce. Of course, it won't do it now to actually photograph...

Never come across that, used iPads since they came out!

 

It's not from an App thats installed?

Possible - using Aten hardware, but can't see anything there either.

Is it in a "focus mode?". Is it also connected to an ethernet adapter? Only other thing I can think of is an app that's on there that's causing it.
