iPad Digital Safeguarding

One of my schools has just received the latest OFSTED guidance relating to Digital safeguarding, generally we are ok with our filtering and monitoring but the issue we have identified is our iPads. As they are single user devices we don't have a method to track who was using an iPad at a specific time and we are looking at two methods to resolve this:

 

1. Force a sign on for the iPad
   
2. Record the iPad user separately
   

 

We use Securly as our MDM and this can force a sign on but we are concerned that as this is no the normal usage of an iPad students will not sign on and off.

 

In the old day there would be a clipboard on the device trolley and students/staff would sign in and out all devices we are looking for a modern version of this, all our iPads and students have a bar code so we can scan them to speed up the process.

 

Does any one have any experience with these solutions or a suggestion for any others please?
