AD mailNickname Attribute

Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on something for me.

 

Should the mailNickname attribute in AD automatically populate or how do you get it to populate?

I am not sure how this automatically populates, but I checked my users & it seems that the "mailnickname" attribute is a copy of the "sAMAccountName" attribute.

 

We use Salamander for the user generation, so this must automatically populate the mailnickname field for us.

What happens if you manually create a user does it automatically populate or not?

 

I am having Salamander installed tomorrow but have an annoying issue that I'm trying to troubleshoot which requires that attribute to be filled and I'm trying to work out how it fills. I've never had a problem with this before.

I'll create a dummy user & see what happens. Will have a quick look at the Salamander configs too

Doesn't automatically fill in. Salamander does indeed populate this, based on "sAMAccountName" as suspected.
