New Macbook and JAMF

Morning All,

 

The situation I have is the school im at has ASM, JAMF School and some iPads, however we now have a need to deploy a macbook... I'm not too familiar with JAMF and at present don't have an awful lot of time to spend getting this deployed or research too in depth how to do it so i'm looking to pull on your expertise here!

 

At the moment i'd just the like the basics if possible i.e. get the macbook to a place where it's domain joined so I can handover to the user, how do I acheive this or where do I start? So far I have added the device to ASM using apple configurator and assigned to JAMF as the MDM

In JAMF School, create a new profile for settings, in the MAC OS part there is Directory part, which is the payload to join it to the domain.

thanks, I've cretaed a new profile and for starters just added the domain details under directory.

 

Do i now need an automated device enrollment profile?

Yes you will need one for DEP enrolment, same as an iPad

Fantastic... DEP Enrollment profile created as well, assigned as the default profile and showing assigned against the device

I would not join a MacBook to a domain unless its a fixed station in an IT Lab. Use a local user account and maybe NoMAD if you need AD communication for password change/shares.

I have 6 macbooks that teachers use, all AD Joined just fine, they log into and store their files in OneDrive.

 

Just because it's a mac doesn't mean you have to treat authentication differently to windows laptops

Sorry for the late response, but if you are still looking for the info, I can say that you should know that typically, MacBooks are not ""domain-joined"" in the same way Windows machines are, but they can be integrated into your network and adhere to its policies.If you require the MacBook to be part of an Active Directory domain, this can be done manually on the MacBook in System Preferences under 'Users & Groups' > 'Login Options' > 'Network Account Server'. However, this is generally more complex and might require additional configuration depending on your network setup.
