MSI Afterburner turning power limit all the way down.

Hi all,

 

Weird problem on my home PC, I've been using MIS afterburner for a few years now without any issue (no overclocking, just custom fan curve and tweaking the power/temp limit down a touch after the New Worlds thing). But recently it keeps defaulting the temp and power limits to the minimum when I restart. (PC specs in signature)

 

Anyone else had this, know what might be causing it?

Not going to be much help here, but I had the same thing some years ago where it simply defaulted the profile each time I rebooted. Never found out what the cause was, but yes, it's very annoying.

Finally found someone has this same issue.

It has happened to me twice so far (as I noticed).

I was playing Control on my 5600x and 3070 @1080p highest settings + rt on and I only get around 40fps I thought I could try DLSS on and got around 60 fps

To be honest, it has been awhile since last time I played that game so I don't think much about the fps but the stuttering was annoying me. I literally had to look up benchmark videos youtube to double check and they all run at double my fps.

Then I realised it happened before when I was playing cyberpunk2077, and in Msi afterburner, the power limit bar was at minimum (37%). After reset it back to 100%, in Control I got 100fps at native 1080p highest settings with rt on.

going back a few years ago when still using an MSI card, and the issue seemed to be resolved (at least until Windows updated the driver for me) was to DDU the machine and reinstalled the GPU via a pre downloaded installer (you will need to boot in without any network connection), and it seemed to have worked.

Doing a clean install of the latest version of afterburner fixed the problem and it hasn't come back again (touch wood).
