forkies Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 We are struggling with getting any decent safeguarding reporting from our Sophos XG firewall, I have a open case pending reply but wanted to know if anyone else had got any decent reports out or are relying on third party products for filtering/integration reporting. We are reviewing our processes in line with new KCSIE guidance and think if we cannot get better reporting than what we have been relying on (and other products such as NetSupport/Impero/Senso but this only covers our own devices not guests/byod) then we will have to replace our filtering solution over summer. Would be interested to hear what other schools running Sophos XG are doing for their reporting.
lmrogers Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Give Lee over at Wave9 a shout. @Wave9_Lee Talk to him about FastVue Reporter for Sophos. It produces really decent reports and alerting from the XG unit and would probably be your best bet. Highly recommend both Lee and FastVue. 2
Warwick_Tech Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 From my understanding, new KCSIE documentation only covers school supplied devices only, there is a caveat in there that mentions reasonable issues with students using personal devices. With this said, as long as your actual devices cannot roam onto hotspot networks and your filtering is in place for BYOD connections you should be golden, complications come from if they take those school devices home, as then they need to be secure. Also, a second shout out for @Wave9_Lee as the man is a legend. 1

Jobos Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 I would be interested if FastVue also. Has anyone got a ballpark figure what it might cost?

sigma Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Is there a standard definition as to exactly what is supposed to be in a Safeguarding Report? My current provider flags up in an safeguarding report if a pupil searches for a Coca Cola logo image and Google returns and image from a site that is categorised as alcohol and is blocked in the search results. This is a false positive. No objection to it being blocked per se, but its not a safeguarding concern. It does not flag as a safeguarding issue if a pupil attemps to access a "video chat with strangers" website such Chatroulette or Shagle. This is a false negative. It is a safeguading issue especially so for vulnerable pupils. I'm currently rolling my own reports, but concerned about missing something.
