Issues With Website Redirect

Hi

 

I was wondering if anyone could help me, we have got a new website on a .org.uk address and we used an old address that was identical but ending in .kent.sch.uk that we now use to redirect to the new site. Out side of our network this works correctly but if someone was to put in .kent.sch.uk inside school we would be getting various messages saying the site is unsecure and also 404 errors. Would this have anything to do with our network originally being set up with the same name as the website? I've checked and there are now IIS servers running on the network so I'm at a bit of a loss as to why this isn't working?! any help anyone can give me would be massively gratefully received

Does your internal DNS server have a zone for your school of {school}.kent.sch.uk?

When you try to call the site up internally it will use that zone for the dns records rather than your external nameserver host and point to different resources.

Thanks for replying so quickly, really great of you. Is this the "Forward Lookup Zones" if so then yes we've got a record in there for school.kent.sch.uk. Do I have to add a new forward to an A record or something like that?

I would maybe add a www.{school}.kent.sch.uk record that matches what is public as an A or cname.
