IT jobs in Dubai

Hi all

 

I am looking to move to Dubai and having worked at schools does anyone know any pointers who can help with jobs in dubai, as Network manager, or if anyone is already there can advice? I have checked job boards but not much there, so not sure if schools there are managed on site team or via MSPs

I think the jobs are mostly at school level with different places of advertising. Often on school's own website, local job boards alongside teacher roles, or LinkedIn are popular. We've advertised a lot of our technician roles on LinkedIn. Follow me and/or our Middle East page for International Schools Partnership.

 

I would look into specific schools that you might like, I'd say larger international schools will be more appealing, and even consider sending in your CV. It might be that they will need someone but not yet have a plan to replace or are just looking locally. There are some groups / mini-groups out here, so there are other possibilities.

 

Couple of queries:

 

Why Dubai? Does it have to be Dubai? It's just an emirate in a larger country (UAE) so why restrict yourself.

Also, why not other places in the Middle East. Last year there were schools in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain that needed IT support.

 

You could look at the IT sector in general, but competition will be fierce, so if you have school experience, it is worth being focussed, but don't rule it out altogether if you have experience.

 

Lastly, get in touch with @Will_Townsend and get on his books, he's placed a lot of people in the middle east.

 

I would defo recommend the region, and the international circuit as a whole. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss anything offline.

A lot of schools do still run in-house IT, but it really depends on the setup, some outsource, others keep a small team on site. Reaching out directly to schools, especially the bigger international ones, can open more doors than job boards alone.

On the moving side, I used smartmovers.ae when I relocated to the UAE. They handled customs, storage, and delivery to my flat without turning it into a circus. Communication was decent and they didn't randomly tack on fees at the end, which seems to happen a lot out there. Just thought I'd mention it in case someone's lining that part up too.

Good thread I am thinking about things like this now as I'll be jobless in Sept and been a bit restless in my house for the last year so could just sell all up and start a new life somewhere else.

 

A friend of mine reccomended Qatar instead of Dubai said you'd get the same pay but it's more relaxed and a bit more chill.  Would you agree @vikpaw ?

Qatar is nice, and pay will be good. Not sure about how 'chill' it is. I think it's a stricter place in general.

As with all places it depends on exactly where you are the community you're in etc.

 

Dubai is hectic and some people feel a lot of social pressure, so you'd certainly spend more (%) of your salary, as there's a load more to do. In that sense it might be considered more relaxed in Qatar. Wherever you are there's plenty to do, and i'd highly recommend the middle east.

 

I've got friends in both places and everyone loves it. 

 

One minor thing to note is that Qatar, along with Saudi and Bahrain still operates a Sun-Thu week, if that matters. More if you've got family / things back home that you need to stay on top of. Never really bothered me. It could affect you if you wanted to do a quick weekend away which is very easy and nice to do from here.
