Anyone know the connection between star, superstar and pulsar? I just came across a reference to superstarreport and wondered where it slotted into the history of SIMS.

I know that STAR was the original core module back in the DOS/dBase days - that was the module that held the basic student data and all the other modules were sperate .exe programs.

They were all run from a simple text menu system. The updates came on 3.5" floppy every quarter.

The documentation still refers to core features using STAR and some of the server folders required for reporting etc still have STAR in their names.

Pulsar is obviously the current client app, pulsar.exe which originally was chained after the SIMS\setups folder was checked for updated files.

I have not come across superstar, but it may have been an intermediate point after the changeover from dBase backend to SQL, before the 32bit windows inplementation came in - I remember us doing the dBase>SQL migration in the the early 2000's, but the details are very hazy.
