Weird DNS issue

Hi All,

 

Hoping you can give me some insight as I can't figure this one out. Basically I have a server linked to the network across a Site to Site VPN.

 

For some reason when I try to ping it via any other device it reacts properly and reports the DNS name as the appropriate IP I'd expect. I've also checked all our DNS servers and the record is pointing to the correct server name also.

 

But for some weird reason if I try to ping this server from our 2 Hyper-V servers is reports back as being the wrong IP address. Again, as far as I can see both these Hyper-V machines are pointing to the same DNS servers and if I perform a nslookup against the name it reports back as the correct IP but as soon as I ping it again it goes back to the wrong IP. If I RDP to the server it won't connect but from any other devices on the network it will.

 

I've also tried flushing the DNS cache to no avail.

 

Any ideas?

Gateway is correct on the Hyper-V machines? Are they on the same or different VLANs?

Amazing, I think this is what it is. Just looked at the hosts files and can see it's pointing to the wrong IP.

 

Am I okay to just remove this line from the hosts file from notepad and save over the top of it?

You can comment out lines. I would be tempted to do that, just incase....
