Feltonfleet School seeks a Mobile Device Manager with IT Technician capabilities to sustain and extend our strong momentum in enriching and extending pupil learning outcomes through the use of emerging and evolving digital technologies. Feltonfleet operates an ambitious Pupil iPad Programme for all pupils in years 6-8. In addition to this, shared iPad units are dispersed across our campus for pupils from Nursery through to year 5. All teaching staff are equipped with a staff iPad and complete the Apple Teacher accreditation process to facilitate their ability to teach dynamically and to innovate with mobile devices.

Feltonfleet is a thriving, co-educational day and weekly/flexi-boarding pre-prep and prep school located near the A3 in Cobham, Surrey. There are 495 pupils on roll, of which 149 are currently in the Pre-Prep. The School is set in 25 acres of woodland and grounds, and presents a marvellous and inspiring working environment. It has charitable status and there is a board of Governors.

 

The Headmistress is Mrs Shelley Lance, who commenced leadership of the school in January 2018. There are 65 full time teaching staff and a large support team. Approximately 60 pupils are weekly or flexi boarders. We follow a Monday to Friday routine, with sport matches for prep school pupils on Saturday mornings.

 

Feltonfleet was judged as Excellent by ISI in 2018 and we move forward with excellence as our habit. All members of staff are expected to demonstrate a positive work ethic alongside a spirit of collaboration and mutual support for one another.

Role overview

The role has two distinct areas of focus; Mobile Device Manager and IT Technician.

Mobile Device Manager

The postholder will assume the primary role of Mobile Device Manager to work closely with the Network Manager supporting day to day management of pupil and staff iPad devices. The role includes:

 

  • Setting up, managing and maintaining teacher and pupil iPads, including but not limited to:

 

 

  • Establishing user groups, usage permissions and managing day-to-day app deployment and app / IOS updates via Lightspeed MDM.
     
  • Establishing and managing teaching groups within Apple School Manager to support use of Apple Classroom.
     
  • Checking, erasing & packaging end-of-lease devices, and unpacking & setting up new iPads for deployment. Initialising new devices using Apple School Manager.
     
  • Responding to pupil and staff requests for support with issues relating to functionality.
     
  • Managing damaged iPads (issuing replacements and arranging returns), pupil charging needs, and temporarily loaned devices pupils.
     
  • Allocating app purchasing to specific departmental budgets.

 

 

  • Exploring new innovative ways to support teaching and learning with iPad in line with emerging technologies, apps and online platforms.

 

 

IT Technician

 

The postholder will also be expected to directly support the department with more general IT technician tasks:

 

 

  • Work as part of a team to maintain the school network in a first line technical support role to end users on all aspects of Feltonfleet School IT provisions.

 

 

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the interactive whiteboard software utilised across the campus to support basic training to staff.

 

 

  • Provide technical advice for school staff and support in lessons where appropriate.

 

 

  • Assist teaching staff to set up IT equipment for lessons and pupil assessment when required.

 

 

  • Set up audio visual devices for school wide events and assemblies.

 

 

  • Monitor Freshdesk support ticket system and respond promptly in an appropriate manner to requests for assistance.

 

 

  • Monitor printer/copier toner levels; replace and order stock when necessary.

 

 

  • Setup and maintain networked Windows PCs/Laptops, Digital Signage and AV equipment.

 

 

  • Carry out regular checks and general maintenance on hardware throughout the site.

 

 

  • Refer more serious technical issues to the Network Manager to ensure effective communication and quick resolution of faults.

 

 

  • Liaise with 3rd party suppliers to ensure a resolution of ICT incidents, as required.

 

 

  • Install new IT equipment purchases as required, redeploying existing technologies where appropriate.

 

Person specification

 

 

  • A proficient knowledge of macOS and iPad OS, with a confident ability to configure and use online remote administrator platforms, including mobile device management tools.

 

 

  • A solid understanding of computer hardware and software and an active desire to remain ‘ahead of the curve’ with respect to new emerging technologies and IT trends in education.

 

 

  • A personable approach and ability to build and sustain excellent working relationships.

 

 

  • Some of the work such as equipment set up may be physically demanding in nature. Training on safe working practices will be provided.

 

 

  • The ability to recognise and understand the needs and priorities of others.
