On the school's chromebooks we are trying to get the "Text to Speech" feature working. It looks like it has been blocked due to HTTP Inspection. We are assuming this as we connected a Chromebook to our Visitor \ Guest wifi and the feature worked fine.

 

Does anyone know what I need to allow through the smoothwall to get this working?

 

I already have a "Do not Inspect" rule on various google services - Google Meet, Drive etc

I've just resolved the issue at a few sites, If you add the following domains to the HTTPS bypass "Text to Speech" should start working.

 

• speech.platform.bing.com <- Google Text to Speech
  
• sr.bing.com <- Bing Text to Speech

Both of them are Bing domains correct.

 

(Not assuming on Googles part) adding "speech.platform.bing.com" as a HTTPS Bypass, Text to speech worked straight away. (After narrowing down Smoothwall's MITM cert was interacting with Text to Speech) Also Found a new articles saying Google doesn't like MITM Certs, Added the device as a exception and they worked instantly so Smoothwall's HTTPS inspection was stopping something.

 

(I suspect they might be sharing resources)

Have you got a support ticket in with us?

After Easter this suddenly started working, so I suspect a Smoothwall update has sorted this. I don't recall changing anything.
