Just wondered whats the easiest way to identify installed fibre cables when there's no writing on the cable within the stretch can see.

Inherited some networks over time and i've seen 62.5 OM1 patch cables used on 50/125 OM3 runs so trying to swap out so everything is as should be.

I've found some green fibre cable in cabs which inherently from my site know this as being 62.5 OM1 but could be wrong?

All the others are black,. The newer cables have OM3 written on but some are unmarked or are green.

Without opening the trays up to see which black and green cables go to which fibre patch ports, just wondered if an easier way to identify the types installed.

You can’t really use the colour of the cable to judge the type. I have seen OM3 in Black, Green and Light Blue. I have also seen Single Mode OS2 in yellow, black and Green.

You would have to find a section where you can see the writing. It should indicate what’s inside.

It'll all be multimode, I will have to spend some time tracing cables and find some identifiers. Would OTDR tests be able to identify types?
