Chrome extension using GPO for non-admin users

Hi

 

I want to install chrome extensions using GPO.

I have configured the group policy on computer level and it is working if I login with user who has admin rights on the PC. Is there any way to make it work for users who do not have admin rights

In the GPO under Administrative Templates --> Google Chrome --> Extensions, you need to configure the following policies:

 

Configure extension installation allow list

Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions

 

In each put the long string value associated with the browser extension. The force installed ones get added on a reboot

I changed the setting on computer gpo.It worked first time only for admin user.

When I try to access extension page even manually, I am getting error that this page is blocked by chrome

I do not have any adblocker and have reinstalled the chrome

Do you have a screenshot of the settings from that GPO? Just the section referring to the Chrome extensions? Have you enabled a black list which would be blocking anything?

Not quite the screenshot I had in mind I was thinking more of your Group Policy settings. But based on what you have put, your GPO settings should be looking like this:

Extensions are getting installed only if I enable developer's mode. Is it right

Is there any particular reason why you'd prefer to use GPO to deploy the extensions, as opposed to managing the browser via the Google Workspace Admin Console?

 

I used to deploy extensions using GPO, before we started using Google Workspace (Google Apps for Education at the time!) but found that it started to clash as we made more use of the Admin Console. I find that it's much easier to manage if you simply use the Admin Console to manage the browser and just force users to sign in to the browser using GPO.
