Jobos Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 We're running a mix of Unifi UAP-AC-Pro APs with the controller running on a VM and a very old Ruckus ZD1106 with zf7372 APs. As there is money left in the budget I would like to remove the Ruckus and replace it with Unifi but I see the AC Pro has been superseded by wifi 6. What Unifi APs are recommended to replace the Ruckus APs and cover the same area? Thanks
Aprice Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 I'd say go for the U6 Pros if you need WiFi 6.
localzuk Posted January 25, 2023 Posted January 25, 2023 The DfE recommends a minimum of Wifi 6 with multi-gig connections now. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/meeting-digital-and-technology-standards-in-schools-and-colleges/wireless-network-standards-for-schools-and-colleges So you would be looking at the U6 Enterprise to comply with their spec.
Jobos Posted January 26, 2023 Author Posted January 26, 2023 Thanks guys. It's a primary but most of the switches are running at 1G. The cabling is cat5e with newer runs cat6 but there's not much of it so I don't feel we would get the most out of the Enterprise APs unless the switches and cabling are upgraded too. Is the coverage similar with either the U6-Pro and U6-Enterprise to the old Ruckus APs so I can swap them out easily without needing to add more?
