Smoothwall S8 rebuild - how long?

I've got an issue with my Smoothwall S8 that means it won't take updates. Smoothwall support have suggested the only course of action is to reinstall which I've not done before.

 

I've seen mentions on here where people have reinstalled their Smoothwall boxes so I just wondered roughly how long it should take and if there is anything I should be aware of before I start.

The reinstall is quick - you can transfer settings from the existing install during the process but do take a full backup before you start. The appliance should boot from an inserted USB drive if present so download the latest ISO from https://software.smoothwall.com/ - get the serial from the dashboard page, burn image to USB, insert the USB and reboot the Smoothwall. Monitor and keyboard needs to be attached.

 

Go through the install steps and select to carry over the settings from the previous install. Once done, you should be up and running again with the same settings - the root password needs to be set again if I remember correctly.

 

The whole process should take less than 15 mins
