Sonic007 Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Hi, If I have 8GB DDR3 in one slot am I worth just keeping the 8 or will adding another 2GB to slot 2 slow things down? Both DDR3 modules are the same type, just different sizes. thanks.
CHiLL Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 If the system supports dual channel memory, you may actually get a performance boost (though it may not be noticeable). From my experience, while mix and matching RAM can have it's performance differences...the main factor is the speed of the RAM rather than capacity. The motherboard and RAM sticks should automatically run at the speed of the slowest device, so adding a slower stick in will slow down the motherboard and other stick to match the new addition. However, again, it may not be a noticeable difference and you will still gain 2GB extra memory. 1
Sonic007 Posted December 5, 2022 Author Posted December 5, 2022 Thankyou. They are the same speed, just one is 8GB and one 2GB
