fiza Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 For a long time now we have blocked access to Vimeo but allowed access to specific videos by setting up Smoothwall according to these instructions https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002033410-Allowing-Access-to-View-Embedded-Vimeo-Videos In the past few days I noticed that staff and students can access vimeo.com without getting blocked. Nothing has changed in the policy so I am not sure why staff and students can suddenly get to vimeo.
ibpalle Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Can you see the log entries for access to Vimeo in the Guardian logs? Is QUIC outgoing being blocked for users? (UDP ports 80 and 443)
fiza Posted November 17, 2022 Author Posted November 17, 2022 Can you see the log entries for access to Vimeo in the Guardian logs? Is QUIC outgoing being blocked for users? (UDP ports 80 and 443) We have the QUIC Content modification policy enabled and always have done.
ibpalle Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 The QUIC content modification policy is good but won't work if the browser is already in QUIC mode. Ideally you will need to block QUIC on the firewall level too.
Norphy Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 For a belt and braces approach, you can disable QUIC in the browser with a GPO with Chrome and Edge as well

Ideally you will need to block QUIC on the firewall level too. Our firewall is controlled by our ISP and they have confirmed that QUIC is blocked.

I have raised a ticket with smoothwall for someone to take a look for us.
