Restrict Saving into Root of Local Users Sharepoint Folder

Hi All

 

I cant find a way to stop users saving into the root of:

 

C:\Users\USERNAME\Sharepoint Folder

 

The Libraries are listed in here fine, but we are having some users saving in the root and this isn't synced, its quite dangerous, leaves the files on the computer and prone to loss if profile is removed.

 

I don't really want to touch the permissions as this may inhibit the creation / Sync of new SharePoint Libraries in the future.

 

There used to be a GPO for this in relation to User Profile to stop saving in the root, but nothing for this.

 

Surely this has caused other people headaches ?

 

Any ideas?

So nobody has this issue then, have you seen that you can do this and how this can become a big problem?

 

I think this is lacking a setting to stop this, unless I'm missing something obvious here.

Hahaha, yeah we all know how that works out don't we.

 

Like you can treat many users with the same level of understanding. If only hey.

 

I'm shocked there isn't a way to stop this that I can see.

And if we treat everyone like children and wipe their behinds they will pick up learned helplessness and we will always have to run around after them.

 

This is a training issue. Tell people that if they save in the top area, they could potentially lose their documents and they will definitely be harder to find. Maybe run a training session on good filing practices.

Be proactive, engage people, don't hide behind technical fixes for things that are a people issue.

 

Alternatively, carry on being shocked and having staff getting the hump when something happens to those documents and them asking why you never told them.

We've been using OneDrive client for four years and been 'all in' with SharePoint site Document Libraries for departments since March 2020. This has never come up.
