talksr Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Hi there, It has been a while since I have come across any software as useful as Ranger and in particular LAN Ranger Server which enabled you to view client systems to see if they were online and if they had a user logged on. You could also send a message, capture the screen, log the station off, reboot or shutdown. Has anyone else come across similar basic software (other than Impero which is far from basic and has many other features) which will show which stations are online and who is logged into them, maybe with the option to reboot? I appreciate it would need some kind of client software to be installed on the station to report the status back. I found it so useful in the past and something like this would be really handy for vanilla setups where you don't have RMMC or Impero.

howartp Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 BatchPatch does this and lots more. I know you don't want "as big as Impero" - but I would say BatchPatch is more akin to what you are looking for; a management console for "doing stuff" rather than a whole UI product for doing all that Impero does. We've had a license for a while but I don't know what pricing looks like / whether there's a free version. Peter 1
MartinByard Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Not exactly along the lines of what you said, but we use a product called labstats, will show you turned off, online and logged in machines, can do software usage tracking, will allow you to create maps of your spaces to show students where available computers are ... and the big one for us - will allow you to have a webpage so students can RDP into available lab machines to access devices from off-site (presuming you've set up the groups etc.) so you don't have to think about them getting the wrong hostnames, is someone already using that PC, is that PC turned on, etc.. 1
