Hi there,

We have a user with 2 x Dell UltraSharp UD2716D monitors.

They have an HP desktop connected to the monitors but would like to also use the dual monitors with a laptop they bring in.

The setup as it stands is as follows:

Computer graphics DP port to DP port 1 input on monitor 1.

Monitor 1 DP out port to Mini DP 1 port on monitor 2.

This works perfectly in daisy chain format with both monitors on and monitor 1 set to DP 1 and monitor 2 set to mDP.

However, if they connect their HDMI laptop via laptop HDMI to monitor 1 HDMI (MHL1) port and then change the input on monitor one from DP to HDMI/MHL1, the image from the laptop is displayed but only on monitor 1. Monitor 2 goes blank and displays no signal.

Does anyone know if it is possible to daisy chain HDMI from one UD2716D to another using the DP out to mini DP in on the second monitor?

MST is only a feature of DisplayPort, so using an HDMI from source (laptop) won't work.

Thank you. That is a pain. Might be easier to get a Displayport splitter in that case and a USB C to DP adaptor for the laptop.

The DP cables for the computer are long and all cabled in behind the desk and down to the PC so not practical to be using those for a laptop connection also.

Could you get a USB-C hub with DP and HDMI out - connect HDMI to monitor 1, DP to monitor 2. If the PC's off and the hub connected the monitors should auto-switch to the hub video?
