How secure are devices that connect to Apple Homekit?

Hi,

 

I'm not too clued up on Apple Homekit devices and wondered how secure they are.

 

I connect most of my other smart devices to a seperate isolated network so they cant access any other parts of my network.

 

Homekit devices connect to my AppleTV. Should I be worried about these devices too? How does Homekit work?

Are these "dumb" devices and Apple takes care of connectivity to the Internet?

I remember a few years ago some manufactures were annoyed at Apple HomeKit because Apple demanded such strong encryption it was causing lag on devices without faster more expensive chips https://appleinsider.com/articles/15/07/22/homekit-market-held-back-by-apples-high-encryption-demands---report

 

I'd not worry about it.

To be honest, if there is a weakness I would probably say it’s the smart product you’re integrating with.
