So far i have setup the following

 

Meraki Wireless 802.1x Wifi setup , Radius pointing to a NPS server and Accounting pointing to Smoothwall.

 

From what i can tell this seems ok , i can also see the authentication of the account in smoothwall ( can login etc ).

 

What im failing to understand is how are people applying the smoothwall proxy address to the Wifi .

 

Is everyone using a Relayed DHCP server with the proxy settings applied with a PAC ?

 

Or is there a lot easier way to do this.

 

Our current proxy on the lan enviroment is applied via group policy , firewall blocks everything else.

For us it's radius authentication (NPS / Accounting to Smoothwall) to get on the WiFi and then a transparent proxy.

 

Certificates is another matter, as they will require installing. Guest networks generally we have HTTPS inspection off so don't require the certificate, but then do need a password that is frequently changed.

How are the users going through the transparent proxy ? is this done on the firewall level ?

In a sense yes. Web traffic has to be routed via the Smoothwall interface with the transparent proxy. All HTTP(S) traffic is then redirected to the proxy using a firewall policy on that interface.
