avmotech Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 We're just beginning to replace projectors and Smart boards with interactive TVs, and we need to run new cables. We'll need runs as long as 50 feet with 4K HDMI as well as USB 3.0, although it's possible that 2.0 will suffice. Any cables going over the ceiling need to be plenum rated. I've looked at long, plenum HDMI and USB cables, both of which are expensive and relatively limited in availability. I've also considered KVM extenders over CatN UTP. However, they require power, and I see them as a more likely point of failure. I also have yet to see a KVM extender that supports USB 3.0. Affordability is important too, of course. Has anyone found a solution that checks all of the boxes?
Aprice Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 We've now switched to fibre optic HDMI cables for anything really over 5M. not sure about plenum ratings on these. Failing that we can get hold of HDMI + USB over cat6 converters from CPC. I presume there will be a supplier with these in the US as well. They are usually USB 2.0 as only really designed for keyboard mouse I assume, which I wouldn't have thought would be an issue for interactive panels.
