Mac Management Best Practice

Good afternoon,

 

Just wondering if anybody has any general advice regarding management of Mac devices in their educational setting, I'm pretty new to my current environment and don't have any experience with managing Macs.

 

This particular organisation has Munki but can't even access that at the moment due to other reasons.

Ideally you'll want to use an MDM (Mobile Device Manager), like Jamf, Mosyle or Intune for example. You can register the devices (via your supplier) into Apple's DEP program (which you tie to your MDM via a token). That way, when a device is imaged/reinstalled and connects to the Internet for the first time during setup - it speaks to Apple's servers and points the device to your MDM. You'll need to configure a management profile with basic settings, which will be applied once the profile is installed. You'll also need to create some configuration profiles for restrictions and configurations, which you can target to those devices, or specific device groups.

Thanks for coming back to me, I didn't even think about InTune and this organisation is already using that to an extent.

 

I think I know who supplied our current Macs but suspect they will not be enrolled in DEP as it seems like they were previously using Munki but I guess I can still get them enrolled and move them over to InTune.
