mikes Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Our staff all have Lenovo E590's and I've had a huge amount of them die due to failed charging ports. The plastic on the USB-C comes away and the unit will not charge. The USB-C port is on the mainboard too sadly. Has anyone else had this the warranty on ours ends in 3 months and I am worried about a mass failure rate next year
Dos_Box Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 Is that the plastic on the connector itself, or the surrounding (case) plastic?
MartinT Posted June 10, 2022 Posted June 10, 2022 We have a large number of Lenovo E14 with USB-C chargers and not a single failure yet.
mikes Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 It's the connector itself, I've been getting some repaired under warranty by our reseller - the ones that don't look that damaged ; but the ones that look physically damaged they refuse to repair saying it is user damage. I am going to try warranty direct with Lenovo, but the USB-C charging port does show physical damage to the outsides of the plastic "line" that the USB-C slot has - does anyone know if Lenovo would honor this warranty or say it is user damage? It's a shame because the entire motherboard has to be replaced as the USB-C connector is directly on the motherboard, not on a daughterboard. We had about 10 fail last year, 6 repaired under warranty but 4 deemed "user damage" by our reseller and not repaired.
psydii Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 We've seen this with 590's stored in trolleys. Basically it turns out the trolleys are too small and the charging cable is pushed by the doors. The department who own the trolley know this and know to put the laptops at an angle so there is no pressure on the cables. Not everybody does this though so if another department demands access via a member of SLT, we often have a number of failures a day or so later as the batteries drain and cant recharge. These laptops are supposed* to be protected, and available only to that one department, but y'know demands of teachers supersede all other priorities and agreements. *by senior management decree, but IT are the villains when we say 'no'. Getting them repaired is cheaper than another trolley full of laptops, so ::SHRUG::
