Caching Apple MacOS large media files before uploading to student personal G drive

Students have large ( 2GB +) files created on our Apple Mac suite. When saving to their school managed google drive the upload often fails/times out due to size.

 

A few techie mates have suggested a caching server connected to the Apple Mac suite which can hold (buffer ?) the large files before being uploaded to their google drives.

 

The vast majority of our school kit is Windows including all servers (with an additional set of Chromebooks.).

 

I've looked around forums, but cannot find any good pointers.

The caching bits in macOS only deal with icloud and other apple content such as macOS/iPadOS/IOS updates.

 

Google drive uses certificate pinning which will make it even harder, if not impossible, to cache content at the network level. Caching only really helps if the source file is the same and several clients need it (e.g. apple releasing a new macOS version and 20 macs downloading it from the cache server).

 

Cache servers have limited use in today's world of HTTPS and certificate pinning (and faster internet connections, if you can get them). More so with dynamically generated content such as google drive.

Issue we have being a Microsoft school is Logic files do not play nicely with OneDrive!

 

Fix i issued is we have a Synology NAS (as linux based) and pupils then save to a network share on the NAS (which is in turn RAIDed and backed up to DPM).

 

Worth seeing what files they are backing up and even if they place nicely with their Google Drive. As may be they get uploaded then scrambled liked logic files in OneDrive (not used google suite so unsure if will/wont)
